Even cases being heard by arbitration panels and approaching final arguments have been declared by Prudential to be over.
In at least two cases, lawyers said, arbitrations that were hours away from ending had been extended on motions by the company's lawyers. Then, after the opt-out deadline on the class action passed, Prudential declared the arbitrations over and threatened to seek contempt charges if the plaintiffs' lawyers tried to proceed.
